Voting

Dad & I were out at the polls this morning. We were in line for just about exactly an hour. I'm sure glad that we took our coffee. It made a nice outing. The crowd was quiet and not a hint of disorder. There were a couple of surpizes from the county - they always want more money for something.
Go Vote, if you haven't. It is a great way to put your two cents worth in.

Recap
According to the High School news, marching band hasn't been all that great for the past few weeks. The trip to Charlottesville didn't come off neatly as it had last year. There were lots of communication errors that messed them up. They scored a 2, but had expectations of a 1.
Culinary Arts has been delicious. Walter has provided us with several interesting meals and has helped out during a catering event at the school.
Sean has gotten into the swing of the 5th grade. I'm so proud of his increased spelling abilities. He's even had his picture posted on the classroom door twice now for being one of the top ten readers of his class.
Dad's class is going. Hopefully quickly. The content is great, but the professor isn't all that great.

Shrek's Business Trip
Here is a Lesson in History
The pivotal event of societal evolution was the invention of beer. This epochal event was both the foundation of modern civilization and the occasion of the bifurcation of humanity into its two distinct subgroups: Liberals and Conservatives.
Once beer was discovered, it required grain, and that was the beginning of agriculture. Neither the glass bottle nor aluminum can were invented yet, so it was necessary to stick close to the brewery. That's how villages were formed.
Some men spent their days killing animals to barbecue at night while they were drinking beer. This was the beginning of the conservative movement.
Other men who were weaker and less skilled at hunting, learned to live off the conservatives by showing up for the nightly barbecues and doing the sewing, fetching and hair dressing. This was the beginning of the liberal movement. An interesting evolutionary side note: some of these early liberal men evolved into pseudo-women.
Liberal achievements include the domestication of cats, the trade union, the invention of group therapy and group hugs, and the concept of democratic voting to decide how to divide the meat and beer that the conservatives provided.
Over the years, conservatives came to be symbolized by the largest, most powerful land animal on earth.
Liberals are symbolized by the jackass.
Modern liberals like imported beer (with lime added), but most prefer white wine or imported bottled water. They eat raw fish but like their beef well done. Sushi, tofu, and French food are standard liberal fare. Another interesting evolutionary side note: most of their women have higher testosterone levels than their men.
Most social workers, personal injury attorneys, journalists, dreamers in Hollywood and group therapists are liberals. Liberals invented the designated hitter rule because it wasn't "fair" to make the pitcher bat.
Conservatives drink domestic beer, They eat red meat, and still provide for their women. Conservatives are big-game hunters, rodeo cowboys, lumber jacks, construction workers, medical doctors, police officers, corporate executives, soldiers, athletes, and generally anyone who works productively outside government. Conservatives who own companies hire other conservatives who want to work for a living.
Liberals produce little or nothing. They like to "govern" the producers and decide what to do with the production. Liberals believe Europeans are more enlightened than Americans. That is why most of the liberals remained in Europe when conservatives were coming to America. They crept in after the wild west was tame and created a business of trying to get MORE for nothing.
Here ends this lesson in world history.

Sipping Vodka
A new priest at his first mass was so nervous he could hardly speak.
After mass he asked the monsignor how he had done.
The monsignor replied, “ When I am worried about getting nervous On the pulpit, I put a glass of vodka next to the water glass. If I start to get nervous, I take a sip.”
So next Sunday he took the monsignor’s advice. At the beginning of the sermon, he got nervous and took a drink. He proceeded to talk up a storm.
Upon his return to his office after the mass, he found the following note on the door:
1. Sip the vodka, don’t gulp.
2. There are 10 commandments, not 12.
3. There are 12 disciples, not 10.
4. Jesus was consecrated, not constipated.
5. Jacob wagered his donkey, he did not bet his ass.
6. We do not refer to Jesus Christ as the late J.C.
7. The Father, Son, and Holy Ghost are not referred to as Daddy, Junior and the Spook.
8. David slew Goliath, he did not kick the sh*t out of him.
9. When David was hit by a rock and was knocked off his donkey, don’t say he was stoned off his ass.
10. We do not refer to the cross as the “Big T.”
11. When Jesus broke the bread at the last supper he said, “take this and eat it for it is my body.” He did not say “ Eat me”.
12. The Virgin Mary is not called “ Mary with the Cherry,.
13. The recommended grace before a meal is not: Rub-A-Dub-Dub thanks for the grub, Yeah God.
14. Next Sunday there will be a taffy pulling contest at ST. Peter’s not a peter pulling contest at St. Taffy’s.

Summer Reading Has Arrived!
Good Luck - It will be productive. At least it's not doing a novel.
Poor Kids at the Mall
Most of the young men I observed didn't even own a belt; there was not one among the whole group. But that wasn't the sad part . . . many of them were wearing their daddy's jeans. Some of these jeans were so big and baggy that they hung low on their hips, exposing their underwear. I know some of them must have been ashamed their daddy was short, because his jeans hardly went below their knees. They weren't even their daddies' good jeans, for most of them had holes ripped in the knees and had a dirty look to them.
It grieved me that in a modern, affluent society like America, there are people who can't afford a decent pair of jeans. I have been thinking about asking my church to start a jeans drive for the "poor kids at the mall." Then on Christmas Eve, I could go Christmas caroling and distribute jeans to these poor teenagers.
But here is the saddest part..... it was the girls they were hanging out with that disturbed me the most. I have never in all of my life seen such "poor" girls. These girls had the opposite problem of the guys . . . they all had to wear their little sisters clothes. Their jeans were about five sizes too small. I don't know how they could even put them on, let alone button them up. Their jeans barely went over their hipbones. Most of them also had on their little sister's top; it hardly covered their midsection.
Oh, they were trying to hold their heads up with pride, but it was a sad sight to see these almost grown women wearing children's clothes. However, it was their underwear that bothered me the most. They, like the boys, because of the improper fitting of their clothes, also had their underwear exposed. I have never seen anything like it. It looked like their underwear was only held together by a single piece of . .. . string.
I know it also saddens your heart to receive this report on the condition of our American teenagers. While I go to bed every night with a closet full of clothes nearby, there are millions of "mall girls" who barely have enough material to keep it together. I think their "poorness" is why these two groups gather at the mall, the boys with their short daddies' ripped jeans, and the girls wearing their younger sisters' clothes. The mall is one place where they can find acceptance.
So, the next time you are at the mall doing your shopping and you pass by some of these poor teenagers, would you say a prayer for them? And one more thing . . . Will you pray that the guys' pants won't fall down, and the girls' strings won't break?!

Positive Side of Life
* Living on Earth is expensive, but it does include a free trip around the sun every year.
* How long a minute is depends on what side of the bathroom door you're on.
* Birthdays are good for you; the more you have, the longer you live.
* Happiness comes through doors you didn't even know you left open.
* Ever notice that the people who are late are often much jollier than the people who have to wait for them?
* Most of us go to our grave with our music still inside of us.
* If Wal-Mart is lowering prices every day, how come nothing is free yet?
* You may be only one person in the world, but you may also be the world to one person.
* Some mistakes are too much fun to only make once.
* Don't cry because it's over; smile because it happened.
* We could learn a lot from crayons: some are sharp, some are pretty, some are dull, some have weird names, and all are different colors....but they all exist very nicely in the same box.
* A truly happy person is one who can enjoy the scenery on a detour.

Shopping
| Well the shopping trip went just fine. We tramped thru Kohl's this afternoon while it was raining outside. Danielle took Miss Rachelle with her for a second opinion on clothing. For a while there I thought that Danielle and Rachelle were going to buy out the store, thanks to a great bit of "trimming" we got away with half.
Sean has a new look he is trying out "Skater". Complete with somewhat baggy pants but not totally droopy. He also found several nice shirts to go with the look. I even managed to find 4, yes you heard it right, 4 new dress. A truly amazing feat. | ![]() |

Walter's First Day - My Doctor's Report
The cast has to stay on for another two weeks - July 6th - at minimum. I do believe that I may sit down a bit latter and cry. I really feel depressed. There is so much to do here and my ability to do it is greatly hampered. How do you clean without water? Driving is tough enough let alone open jars, sweep/mop floors, vacuum (this one really causes trouble). Grrrr.

Flameboy
|
| Sean got a new skateboard from Dominon Skateboards. It is a local skate shop here in town.
The skateboard itself is a World Industries Flameboy v2.0 Custom Complete, assembled with Bullet 7.6 trucks, Red Bullet 53mm wheels, Bullet bearings, and Blackmagic grip tape. Now that he has a awesome skateboard he needed to find somewhere to try it out fully. We found a local Skate Park where Sean can go and practice some of the more "adventuresome" tricks. The admission is $7.00 per day, that includes the whole day. In order to go he still needs a helmet and elbow pads. Sean spent the better part of the evening testing it out on the ramp he has and even doing some tricks. He has a few new bruises to show, but they are just badges of sport for him. |
