Tuesday Clouds & Coffee

It appears that we are going to have an overcast day, and it feels like there may be some rain or a storm associated with it also. The weather report is indicating that we may have some thunderstorms on the way later today. That explains Sean's migraine yesterday - big weather changes.

Walter called me this morning with the joyous news that he was able to fill up his car for $19.00, gas was $2.08/gallon. He was quite pleased. He was also feeling great this morning after a good nights sleep, even though his class had run over by 30 minutes. That put him getting home until 11:00 p.m. I think that is a bit late, particularly when he gets up so early in the morning.

Mom sent me this cute number late last night. So everyone will knows where I'll be this morning. Mom is doing some creative things in Photoshop these days. We always knew that she had it in her, especially on the photography end. Alice & I had better watch out or she's going to pass us right on by. :)

On the trip out to Mom & Dad's house for coffee, I spotted this yellow mushroom as I began pulling down their driveway. It was such a vivid yellow, I wasn't able to pass it up. Carla went with me and I do believe that she enjoyed the trip. She particularly enjoyed having her doggie treats from Mom.

Tim just phoned - talk about life going around and around. His survey instructor is from the Norton area of Virginia, and is a descendant of the Harbers, as are we. So....it looks like Tim is taking his class from a cousin. It never fails we can't ever get too far before we bump into someone who is a cousin. It is just so humorous.

Tweat has been full of herself today - fussing with me everytime that I pay attention to Carla or when I'm typing and she thinks I'm not listening to her. Even though she has been outside to hang around a for awhile today.

Ahhh...the rain has finally arrived. It's not raining very hard, just a really nicely. Sean is outside, but hanging out on the porch with friends, so they are staying dry and still able to have a good time.

Walter has reported in this evening that he scored an 81 on his first pre-calculus test for the semester. So far it is a "B" for the semester. Way to go Walt - keep up the good work.

Watch Your Diet

A poorly ventilated room and a diet of "cabbage and beans" are being blamed for the death of a man who died while inhaling his gas. Reportedly, he was asleep in his bedroom when he succumbed to the fumes. The police observed a "high concentration of methane" in the room, as well as a "noxious cloud" that lingered ominously by the bed. Had a window been left open, one man said, he'd still be alive. One rescuer was hospitalized and at least three others got sick. [From Exercise Plus]

Obituary

May we please have a moment of silence. ..............

This month we mourn the passing of a beloved old friend, Common Sense, who has been with us for many years. No one knows for sure how old he was, since his birth records were long ago lost in bureaucratic red tape.

He will be remembered as having cultivated such valuable lessons as knowing when to come in out of the rain, why the early bird gets the worm, life isn't always fair, and maybe it was my fault.

Common Sense lived by simple, sound financial policies (don't spend more than you earn) and reliable parenting strategies (adults, not children, are in charge).

His health began to deteriorate rapidly when well intentioned but overbearing regulations were set in place. Reports of a six-year-old boy charged with sexual harassment for kissing a classmate; teens suspended from school for using mouthwash after lunch; and a teacher fired for reprimanding an unruly student, only worsened his condition.

Common Sense lost ground when parents attacked teachers for doing the job they themselves failed to do in disciplining their unruly children.

It declined even further when schools were required to get parental consent to administer Panadol, sun lotion or a sticky plaster to a student - but could not inform the parents when a student became pregnant and wanted to have an abortion.

Common Sense lost the will to live as the Ten Commandments became contraband, churches became businesses, and criminals received better treatment than their victims.

Common Sense took a beating when you couldn't defend yourself from a burglar in your own home and the burglar can sue you for assault.

Common Sense finally gave up the will to live after a woman failed to realize that a steaming cup of coffee was hot. She spilled a little in her lap, and was promptly awarded a huge settlement.

Common Sense was preceded in death by his parents, Truth and Trust; his wife, Discretion; his daughter, Responsibility; and his son, Reason.

He is survived by three stepbrothers; I Know My Rights, Someone Else is to Blame, and I'm A Victim.

Not many attended his funeral because so few realized he was gone.

Just read Walter's Bird v. Mirror. Got quite a chuckle out of it. Would loved to have watched the birds.
