Busy Day

When I got to the office this morning this little fellow was hanging out near the back door. He was moving very slowly, probably because of the low temperatures.

It has been a busy day. I completed production on three magazines today, plus all the normal daily stuff.

Walter headed out this morning to the orthopedic and finally find out what was going on with his leg. The word is that the bone has finally healed. He'll be a few more months getting his muscles back to normal but it is really good news.

Happy Sunday!

It has been a fantastic Sunday. Sleeping a bit late, going out for 'brunch' with Walter, Jeff & Sarah.

We hit Aunt Sarah's for brunch. The meal was great, but the service today was an epic fail. Poor Walter & Sarah, both having worked in the food industry, they have high expectations. Which were most assuredly not met. We even did a bit of shopping at Bed, Bath & Beyond. I haven't been out just shopping in a long time. It was great fun. I even found a wall hanging for the dining room.

CHHS Band Reunion

back row: Tim Sanders, Judy Parsons Smith, Doug McNamara, Joe Simpkins,
Laura Loper Griggs, Donna Kelsey, Susan Terry Martin
middle row: Alan Blackmon, Jeff Creech, Diana Moon Morris, Tom Griggs, Steve Tuck
front row: Wendy Link Routhier, Joe 'Jose' Brame, Russ Bahorsky

Members of the Joe Simpkins' era Marching Cavaliers gathered together this evening for a march down memory lane. It was a great evening catching up with former band members, and watching a specially produced DVD of the 1980 Band Documentary with Bonus Video" edited and produced by Tom Griggs. It was an amazing evening, recalling fantastic times.

CHHS Homecoming

It was awesome getting together with everyone at the game. Not a bad turn out on with only a month's notice. The Joe Simpkins' era band members found a home in the bleacher sitting behind the current band.

Walter was a hoot. He played gargoyle for us and warded off any potential invasion from non-band members. We also enlisted him to take group photo.

DentistryForDiabetics Conference

We started off our conference weekend on Thursday evening, with a pre-meeting meeting. It was quite the social event. It was a great time for the doctors to meet and really get to know one another.

Even though Friday morning started off rainy our spirits weren't dampened. We had a full house.

Thursday Happenings

On the way to work this morning the sky as so pretty. I got this shot of the clouds at the intersection just up from the office.

We're holding our conference at a new venue this month, the Hotel Sierra out at Short Pump. Very nice facilities. The decor is very calming - the colors and general feel remind me of some places in Italy. They even have a roof top area for outdoor events that really reminded me of the roof top of the hotel where I stayed in Naples.

This evening we are having a pre-meeting meeting, just a small group get together to bat around some ideas. Many times these pre-meetings produce loads of great ideas, discoveries and ah ha's that may not have come about in the larger group setting.

Hump Day! Yippee!!

Yippee!!! I've made it through the day! We have been extremely busy at the office in preparation for our conference this weekend. Brian F. and I have been putting some final touches on some designs for a website, gathering up documents for distribution and just getting the normal daily stuff done.

On the way in I caught these geese flying over the field at the end of the road.

This evening I've got lemon chess pies in the oven, and a couple of more ready to go in. I haven't made these darn thing in almost 30 years. Lord, help if they don't turn out right because I'd never, ever, ever hear the end of it. Dad had already put in his order for one, so I just might end up making more than I thought I would.

Countdown to the Weekend

Preparations have been underway for a few weeks now and we're finally coming down to the wire. Homecoming is Friday night followed by the band reunion. I'm looking forward to both events.

I'll be busier than a March hare both days. We are having a conference at work on both days, prior to the evenings festivities. So I'll be racing from one event to the next.

Terrific Sunday

It has been a beautiful day, fantastic temperature, with just a hint of a breeze.

I've been working on the final transfer of data and program installations to the new computer. The old one decided to work, at least temporarily, so that has been helpful in getting the information transferred and making sure that I have all the programs installed that I usually use. You know the first thing that would happen on Monday is that I'd find out there was something on the old one that I need to use during the day.

The band reunion is coming right along. In fact, it seems to be growing by leaps and bound. I am forward to Saturday, catching up with everyone. All you band members out there if you haven't signed up do so now so we'll know how many are coming! http://budurl.com/chhs

Henricus Publick Day

The girls (Mom, Elda, Abby, me, and our escort Sam) ventured out this morning to Henricus, in southern Chesterfield. We spent the morning and early afternoon meandering through the Fort, Indian village, and touring the Godspeed (which had sailed up from Jamestown).

Abby and Sam were particularly taken with the Indians. They were very informative. They even had a flint knapping demonstration. We were told that a group of the Indians had slept in the lodge last night.

There were various demonstrations: carpentry, blacksmith, traders, musician, cooking, tobacco farming, laundry, gardening, and medical treatments of the time. Everyone was informative and entertaining.

Both Abby & Sam were off almost from the minute we hit the fort gate, taking pictures of everything. They are really quite the shutterbugs. Once they had taken a photo they were off to find something new to see. Abby was having such a good time taking pictures of the chickens and turkey that were in the barnyard. We even got in a few bugs and a caterpillar.

The kids and I slipped away from Mom & Elda, and I got them big scoops of Bruster's ice cream. The little bunchkins wouldn't even give their mom a bit. They definitely enjoyed it.

I was so glad that we had gotten there early, the lines weren't long and we were able to get down to tour the Godspeed before the crowds really arrived.

The kids enjoyed the Colonial games and crafts that were available. Sam was having fun trying out all the different activities. Abby got very involved in to making a sachet. She spent a long time decorating the outside. She was being quite the little artist.

On the way out we caught up with a mother and her 4-year-old re-enactors. The little guy was just as cute as a button. He posed for us, and then started 'flirting' with Abbey. Doing some of the cutest things. His antics were a great ending to the tour of the fort.

End Of The Week

It has been a full and frustrating day. It started off fine until I fired up the computer and the display went black. I held my breath and waited, but it didn't recover. I tried rebooting and running things in safe mode, but that didn't work. In fact it threw a couple of new errors. Well, sometimes, a good reboot from Safe Mode works, but not this time. A black screen with various blocks of undefined color scattered in the corners. Yuck!! Of course, the timing could not have been worse. We were working on getting out a book out to the publisher. That has been postponed till Monday now.

I dashed out almost immediately and headed for home. I needed to pick up my CS4 software for installing on another computer. Then on to BestBuy for a new computer. While waiting for a 'geek' in the computer department, I was on the phone with Adobe verifying that the Creative Suite would run on the Windows Vista 64 bit system. Once I found out that it would I was set. Following the basic rule of thumb for computer purchase, get the most RAM, largest hard drive, and fastest processor you can. I have upgraded from my HP Pavillion d9000 to a HP Pavillion dv7.

Once back in the office I delved into the arduous task of setting up a new computer, with all the inital setup steps that you must go through. Once I had that done, well not quite all done. I went ahead and got my Creative Suite installed and was able to get to editing.

I've finally gotten the last of 56 Microsoft updates installed this evening. On top of all the normal Office programs. There are a number more programs that I still have to get done before Monday. But I'm not going to push too hard to get them done this evening.

Dr. Martin and Brian F. took me out to Firebirds for lunch in celebration of my birthday. It was a very nice lunch. While I was out Walter came by the office and fixed the door handle on my car door. Now I can get in and out of the car without rolling down the window.

Year in Review

Last year on my birthday I was sitting in Naples, in our hotel lobby listening to one our tour group members play on a 100-year old mandolin, while drinking Lemoncello that we'd picked up in Capri. It wasn't too many days later that I was vising the Trevi fountain in Rome and throwing my coins in. (They say if you throw in one you will return to Rome, if you throw in 2 you'll find love.) It was a too short trip, yet there are so many memories.

The rest of my year seemed to be just about as eventful. Just after Christmas the Facebook community exploded! It is truly amazing how everyone is getting back together after 30 years or so. The monthly Monday get togethers are turning in quite the events.

In January, Walter (my son) bought a house and I moved in with him at the end of the month. That has been an experience. Construction everywhere for the first three or four months. Then, of course, once they completed the house, trees had to come down. Only 55!! Firewood is still everywhere.

During March and April we took a couple of impromptu trips to the Outer Banks. One was absolutely on a whim on a Saturday afternoon. We ended up in Ocracoke for dinner. What a drive that was. Our second trip was a little more planned and that time we took my mom with us. That trip too turned out to be a real adventure. We even managed to get in the Kenny Loggins concert at Innsbrook.

At the end of the Spring I enrolled at Sessions.edu in the Graphic Design Master Certification program. So far classes have been going well. All A's so far. I just really need to get over Typography class.

August brought Brian in from the frozen land of the UP of Michigan. We had quite the turn out for his Welcome Home/Going Away party.

September slipped right back around and has been filled with a flurry of activities. Planning Homecoming events and band reunion in addition to actually working.

All-in-all the year began and ended on a high note. Here's to another terrific year!

King Tut! Has Been Found

We've been telling our friends and family about this performance for years and now after 30 years in hiding the video has resurfaced! Thanks to Tom Griggs for letting me digitize his copy. But the real news it that the original footage has been found and Tom is having it converted over to DVD format.

I had a fantastic journey down memory lane today visiting with Diana (Moon) Morris, Joe Simpkins, Tom & Laura (Loper) Griggs. The photos and videos are priceless. I've got a whole box of photos on loan from Joe Simpkins to scan, so be on the lookout for new "old" band photos.

Surprise

I got a big surprise this evening. I went out for an improptu dinner with Diane & Ryland at Glory Days Grill. The stinkers, had a birthday cake for me. It was very sweet and totally unexpected. Thanks guys!!

I caught Walter this evening before he was heading out for the evening. Amazingly he wasn't wearing the usual jeans and flannels. He does clean up well.

Randy the Raccoon

Just when I thought that I was going to be totally stressed out for the entire day...I heard from Tim about their interesting adventure with a Randy the Racoon. The story goes something like this...

They were having the chimney taken out of the house due water problems. It seems that Randy had decided to take up residence in the chimney this Spring, much to the dismay of the construction workers when they began tearing out the old chimney. Randy wasn't all too keen on the fact that his hiding spot had been discovered and retreated to the furthest point away from all the activity. Only to discover that they had only left him one means of escape...a straight path to the crawl space door and the freedom of 'raccoon world'.

Once Randy was safely out of the house, they did a little investigative work and found that he had apparently scaled the side porch. Then climb up onto the roof and then slid right down the chimney. There were sooty footprints left at the scene.

Just goes to show you never really know what you'll find when doing home improvements.

A Long Day

Grrr Webinars... Just when you think that you have everything running as smooth as silk, something has to go wrong. Oh, well I was able to back up and punt. It went fine after we figured out what was causing the issue, but even though it shouldn't have messed up in the first place. Especially when what causes the problem is looking at the software that you use to run the darn thing. All in all though the first one went well, now just to prepared for a replay much later this evening. It's going to be a long day.

ONE
Recently, when I went to McDonald's I saw on the menu that you could have an order of 6, 9 or 12 Chicken McNuggets. I asked for a half dozen nuggets. "We don't have half dozen nuggets," said the teenager at the counter. "You don't?" I replied. "We only have six, nine, or twelve," was the reply. "So I can't order a half dozen nuggets, but I can order six?" "That's right." So I shook my head and ordered six McNuggets.

TWO
I was checking out at the local Wal-Mart with just a few items and the lady behind me put her things on the belt close to mine. I picked up one of those "dividers" that they keep by the cash register and placed it between our things so they wouldn't get mixed. After the girl had scanned all of my items, she picked up the "divider", looking it all over for the bar code so she could scan it. Not finding the bar code she said to me, "Do you know how much this is?" I said to her "I've changed my mind, I don't think I'll buy that today." She said "OK," and I paid her for the things and left. She had no clue to what had just happened.

THREE
A lady at work was seen putting a credit card into her floppy drive and pulling it out very quickly. When I inquired as to what she was doing, she said she was shopping on the Internet and they kept asking for a credit card number, so she was using the ATM "thingy."

FOUR
I recently saw a distraught young lady weeping beside her car. " Do you need some help?" I asked.. She replied, "I knew I should have replaced the battery to this remote door unlocker. Now I can't get into my car. Do you think they (pointing to a distant convenience store) would have a battery to fit this?" "Hmmm, I dunno. Do you have an alarm, too?" I asked. "No, just this remote thingy," she answered, handing it and the car keys to me. As I took the key and manually unlocked the door, I replied, "Why don't you drive over there and check about the batteries. It's a long walk."

FIVE
Several years ago, we had an Intern who was none too swift. One day she was typing and turned to a secretary and said, "I'm almost out of typing paper. What do I do?" "Just use copier machine paper," the secretary told her. With that, the intern took her last remaining blank piece of paper, put it on the photocopier and proceeded to make five "blank" copies.

SIX
I was in a car dealership a while ago, when a large motor home was towed into the garage. The front of the vehicle was in dire need of repair and the whole thing generally looked like an extra in "Twister." I asked the manager what had happened. He told me that the driver had set the "cruise control" and then went in the back to make a sandwich.

SEVEN
My neighbor works in the operations department in the central office of a large bank. Employees in the field call him when they have problems with their computers. One night he got a call from a woman in one of the branch banks who had this question: "I've got smoke coming from the back of my terminal. Do you guys have a fire downtown?"

EIGHT
Police in Radnor , Pa. interrogated a suspect by placing a metal colander on his head and connecting it with wires to a photocopy machine. The message "He's lying" was placed in the copier, and police pressed the copy button each time they thought the suspect wasn't telling the truth. Believing the "lie detector" was working, the suspect confessed.

A mother calls 911 very worried asking the dispatcher if she needs to take her kid to the emergency room, the kid was eating ants. The dispatcher tells her to give the kid some Benadryl and it should be fine .. The mother says, I just gave him some ant killer......

Dispatcher: Rush him to the emergency room!

And It's Only Wednesday

Just when I was thinking that the week couldn't get any longer, I realized that it is only Wednesday! I have been bogged down with encoding video for the past two days, a very slow and sometimes painful process. Topping all that off with experimenting with GoToWebinar prior to our upcoming webinars this week. Yikes. I thought there for a while I was going to lose my mind. I just hate learning new software on the fly.

This evening I was off to a RAUG meeting. I was hoping that Alice would be able to meet up with me this month, but she's been swamped as well. Maybe in October? The meeting was very interesting we covered Kuler and ConnectNow as well as some templating issues in InDesign.

I almost forgot! Duh! The funniest thing that happened to me today. On the way to the RAUG meeting I thought that I would make use of the travel time to catch up with family. So I got Tim on the phone and was chatting away with him, when suddenly I noticed that I was crossing the Huguenot Bridge. Oops! I was suppose to have turned on to Chippenham Parkway. Talk about a "senior moment", oh well it worked out alright. I picked up the Downtown Expressway off Cary Street and made it back across the river to Artworks in plenty of time. Next month I'm going to have watch where I'm going more closely or else I'll wind up in the West End without even thinking about it.

Back to Work

What a dreary day to start the new work week with! Rainy and yucky!

Brian F. and I have spend virtually the entire day working on the PowerPoint Presentation. We've been synching an audio track to the individual slides. It is has come along way in a week. We're in the final stages of completion now, unless there is some change we'll be good to go tomorrow. We've got some video editing to do on another project that will need to be finished before the end of the week. It all just takes time, and heaven forbid if there is something that needs to be corrected after the video is rendered. Then it's time to start all over again. The computer is tied up for an hour or more.

I've brought home the video to re-encode this evening. It's being processed right along now. Taking what seems to be forever, but not really. In total it should take about an hour and a half. Then we'll see if it is the quality that I'm looking for. I surely hope so, making the adjustments just takes forever.

11:00 p.m. The video finally finished encoding!!! Only 4 1/2 hours after beginning. I sure hope that there aren't any changes tomorrow, otherwise it'll be tomorrow afternoon before it can be used.

Labor Day

We had a girls day planned for the day, but that fizzled out pretty quickly today. Elda & Abbey were coming over, but Elda is suffering so from allergies she wasn't up to coming out. Alice & Cassie didn't make it either. Alice is suffering from too much work (home & office) so she was just going to vegetate for the day.

So Mom, Mamaw & I spent the afternoon together. We spent the time chatting and ordered in Chinese for lunch (so no one had to cook). It was a very nice afternoon of catching up on things and generally doing nothing much. Mamaw wasn't very talkative, she was just 'listening' to things.

This morning I received my final assignment grade from my InDesign professor. Yeah! Took the exam and have completed the course with an A. Now on to working on completing my Fundamentals of Typography class. I've been gathering the necessary elements to complete the first assignment and hope to have that finished before the end of the week.

The rain finally arrived here early this afternoon. It looks like it has settled in for a good long visit, until Friday according to NOAA.

Trip To Yorktown

Sean and I left around 9:30 for a trip to the Yorktown waterfront. We had a relaxing drive down on Colonial Parkway. We even made a stop to take several pictures along the parkway.

We arrived in Yorktown at just the right time, the Alliance was out on the river. It was cool to see a ship that large using sails. Oh there were quite of few smaller sailboat, but it was impressive.

Sean hung out on the beach for awhile digging a huge hole, which he promptly got into and covered himself up with sand. Even going so far as to decorate himself with some spare parts! After having that much sand all over him, he spent the rest of his time in the water.

Fireworks

Mom called me this evening around 7 p.m. to let me know that there was going to be a fireworks display at the reservoir. Sean and I hopped in the car and headed out to watch.

We started out over on Genito Road as the moon was coming up. I got this interesting shot of the moon rise. (I was using manual settings and made it a bit too bright. It looks too much like sunrise.)

When we realized that we were in the wrong location we hurried thru Woodlake to Hull Street. We arrived just in time to quickly settled in, across the street from Woodlake, in the McDonald's parking lot to watch. It was a great vantage point.

We got there just in time to enjoy the show. It ran about 15 minutes was nice. I got a number of photos and a video too!

Out with Sean

Ran out with Sean to pick up a few things that I needed for typography class, and ended up at the new Wally World. Well that was not all that it cracked up to be. It had loads of space but it really didn't seem to be all that impressive.

Sean commented about it being way too blue inside. I could agree with that there was a blue cast to the lighting in the store. Or it could have just been the light reflecting off all the blue signage.

Saturday

It has been an interesting morning. I received some very odd text messages on my phone. Who knew that Ocracoke Island could send text messages? Since then my phone has created a blog of it's very own. I suppose that it is trying to exert some independence. I mean really. I gave it a little space in the right column and then it just took off from there. I never know what it is going to have to say. It'll just keep us all guessing.

Talked to Sean early this afternoon. He's going to come over and spend the night at the house and then we're going to head down to Yorktown beach on Sunday morning. Sean wanted to get out to a beach before the summer was truly over. I figured that Yorktown might not be nearly as crowded as Virginia Beach, but you never know. We may get there and just keep on going. Tomorrow will tell. Time to breakout the beachwear.

Starting the Labor Day Weekend

Slept in just a little late this beautiful Saturday morning. We've had the windows open at the house for the last three days. I even opened up a few more last night, since I won't be heading out to work until Tuesday. It is so peaceful listening to the birds during the day and the crickets, etc at night.

I believe the game plan for the weekend is to continue with the yard clean up. Mr. Sleepy is still in bed and I believe that he is enlisting one of the boys from next door in moving and stacking the remaining wood.

I need to get into my typography class exercises. Most of these are not online and require hand drawn letters and even a 'field trip' of sorts to find different font styles.

And just how many hats have I had on today....

As the day at the office began, I found myself manning the front desk (thank goodness Jami will be back on Tuesday) and working on a PowerPoint presentation with Brian F. The deadline for the presentation is quickly approaching, but we've had to move out of my quiet office and up to the front desk where there are loads of distractions.

Patients, phones, radio, other staff, loads of different noises that we don't normally deal with, plus questions from patients, pharmacies, and other practices. YIKES! I definitely feel like a fish out of water up there. Some stuff isn't so bad, it actually reminds me of way back when I worked for Jefferson Ward as the PBX operator.

It really is the dental stuff that gets me. Thank goodness that Roz has been here to play back up to our stint in the 'receptionist' position, or rather hot seat. She's been able to tackle all those questions that neither of us have been able to field. Jami is dynamite dealing with all this everyday, God love her.

Walter started out the morning messing on Facebook. He and Jeff surely entertained themselves over my status updates. Hopefully he has gotten out and started finishing up clearing the woodpiles from out of the yard. It will look so nice once it's all stacked in the back. Just in time to enjoy a cleared yard for about 15 minutes before the leaves begin to fall. Then it'll be time to start all over again. It won't be as bad as it was when we first moved in, 55 trees gone and virtually all the previous years leaves gone as well. One season of leaves shouldn't be so horrible now.

As the day has worn on my appreciation level for Jami has risen as well, aside from all the other stuff that I ranted on earlier, she has to keep the office schedule in line. Now that is a job. Most people don't think anything about calling and cancelling a dental appointment at the last minute, but when they do it really throws a monkey wrench in the works and effects at least 3-5 other people as well. Then there is all the shuffling that is needed to fill the vacancy.

Walter sent a text to my phone to help me out with greeting patients. Here's the audio:
Ever since Walter found out that my phone had the capability to read text messages he has amused himself by sending me some very odd and interesting phone messages. The following one was just one of the longest that he has sent. Some context is necessary. Josh repairs ATM machines, and some of his biggest problems arise from people putting coins into machines that are not designed to accept them. Wayne is forever teasing him about putting coins in the ATM's. Thus the running joke about coins in an ATM. In addition to all this Walter has decided that when my phone is in vibrate mode it sounds like someone passing gas, when it vibrates, while sitting on the counter or table. I know. Horrible potty jokes abound.

With that being said, here is a message that my phone 'read' to me one day recently about world domination:

As you can tell Walter has put a whole lot of time and thought into theses messages. It is surely a cheap way for him to entertain himself, and others. :)

Going backwards to the beginning of the day, as I was heading into work this morning I was greeted at the intersection of Hull Street & Fordham by five Chesterfield police cars all lit up like Christmas trees in front of the Sheetz. From the light I couldn't 'see' what they were up to and wasn't enlightened much further as I turned onto Hull. What i did find was yet another crusier slightly up the road. As I got closer to Courthouse Road, near Rockwood Park I saw four officers walking on the side of the road looking at or for something.

Much later this evening Walter found out that someone had been shot near the Sheetz. Although the report from the Sheetz is that they didn't hear a thing. I guess we'll eventually find out what happened on the news, sometime in the future.

Harry Truman's Excellent Adventure
The True Story of a Great American Road Trip
by Matthew Algeo

Harry Truman was a different kind of President. He probably made as many, or more important decisions regarding our nation's history as any of the other 42 Presidents preceding him. However, a measure of his greatness may rest on what he did after he left the White House.

The only asset he had when he died was the house he lived in, which was in Independence Missouri. His wife had inherited the house from her mother and father and other than their years in the White House, they lived their entire lives there.

When he retired from office in 1952, his income was a U.S. Army pension reported to have been $13,507.72 a year. Congress, noting that he was paying for his stamps and personally licking them, granted him an 'allowance' and, later, a retroactive pension of $25,000 per year..

After President Eisenhower was inaugurated, Harry and Bess drove home to Missouri by themselves. There was no Secret Service following them.

When offered corporate positions at large salaries, he declined, stating, "You don't want me. You want the office of the President, and that doesn't belong to me. It belongs to the American people and it's not for sale."

Even later, on May 6, 1971, when Congress was preparing to award him the Medal of Honor on his 87th birthday, he refused to accept it, writing, "I don't consider that I have done anything which should be the reason for any award, Congressional or otherwise."

As president he paid for all of his own travel expenses and food.

Modern politicians have found a new level of success in cashing in on the Presidency, resulting in untold wealth. Today, many in Congress also have found a way to become quite wealthy while enjoying the fruits of their offices. Political offices are now for sale. (sic. Illinois)

Good old Harry Truman was correct when he observed, "My choices in life were either to be a piano player in a whore house or a politician. And to tell the truth, there's hardly any difference!

I say dig him up and clone him!!

God was missing for six days...

Eventually, Michael, the archangel, found him, resting on the seventh day.

He inquired, "Where have you been?"

God smiled deeply and proudly pointed downwards through the clouds,

"Look, Michael. Look what I've made.

Archangel Michael looked puzzled, and said, "What is it?"

"It's a planet," replied God, "and I've put life on it... I'm going to call it Earth and it's going to be a place to test Balance."

"Balance?" inquired Michael, "I'm still confused."

God explained, pointing to different parts of earth. "For example, northern Europe will be a place of great opportunity and wealth, while southern Europe is going to be poor. Over here I've placed a continent of white people, and over ther e is a continent of black people. Balance in all things."

God continued pointing to different countries. "This one will be extremely hot, while this one will be very cold and covered in ice."

The Archangel, impressed by God's work, then pointed to a land area and said, "What's that one?"

"That's Washington State , the most glorious place on earth. There are beautiful mountains, rivers and streams, lakes, forests, hills, and plains.

The people from Washington State are going to be handsome, modest, intelligent, and humorous, and they are going to travel the world. They will be extremely sociable, hardworking, high achieving, carriers of peace, and producers of software."

Michael gasped in wonder and admiration, but then asked, "But what about balance, God ? You said there would be balance."

God smiled, "There's another Washington . Wait till you see the idiots I put there.

Full Moon on Friday

I knew it! People are acting out of character and pretty crazy. You can always tell when it is close to or there is a full moon. Things just get really strange.

Back when I was working for AT&T as an operator, we would get some really strange calls from men who it seemed didn't have much else to do late at night. Some of the propositions were quite graphic, needless to say they ended up being quite surprised when they found out they were talking to supervisors and not us.

I saw that Tropical Storm Erika was passing by the Virgin Islands today. I guess it is making for a soggy day in paradise, but tomorrow is another day and I bet the sun is back in full force. If things are like here, you always can use the rain, it just the pesky strong winds that are a problem. Here's hoping & praying that there aren't any big problems as a result of the storm.

It has been a cool evening. Walter & I ran out to the grocery store this evening. The stinker was out to get a couple of pieces of birthday cake. I was good. I picked up more salad for the weekend.

Mid-week Craziness

Things got a little crazy today. Sessions notified me that they had locked my InDesign class. What's up with that? Turns out that they had the class ending yesterday, when it should be sometime next year. All fixed. So just as soon as the professor grades my final assignment I can take my final exam.

The office has been just a bit out of sorts as well, with Jami missing from the front desk Brian and I have been recruited to fill in during the afternoons and will be taking over the whole job of receptionist/administrative assistant. We even heard from one of the doctors, that we work with in Florida, who's had a really exciting day. A patient drove their car into his building! We hear that the damage was basically cosmetic, but nonetheless major event. Some of the jokes were horrible, others fairly funny. Particularly ones about sedating patient's before they get in the office and have a 'drive-thru' dental practice. I'm sure he'll have a few stories to tell at the conference at the end of the month.

[8 p.m.] It has been a great evening. Typography class is going smoothly and seemingly quickly. The hardest part that I can see right now is collecting the 10 type rubbings that I need to gather. There aren't alot of things that I am around on a daily basis with raised text. Lots and lots of print, but not too much signage. We'll see, there actually may be more than I realise once I get started.

We've still got the windows open here. I'm loving it. No ac or heat! Yeah! It is such great sleeping weather.

Just saw an add on television for getting certified as a massage therapist. At the office they tell that it would be a great 'third', 'fourth', or 'fifth' career. I think I'll stick with the graphic design for now. :)

Jazz

In the course of the day today. I ran across a dentist who is a jazz musician and had even put up a jukebox on his practice website. Way cool. I've enjoyed listening to it all morning.

Sunday

Wow, am I sore from my massage. I didn't think that I would be this sore today, but I sure am. Even so, I do feel much better. Who would have thought that a massage would make that much difference.

Mom & Mamaw dropped by this afternoon for a nice long visit. It was good getting to see Mom, especially since I missed her on Friday night.

Not much elese going on. I hope everyone has had a great day.

Soothing Saturday

I spent the morning working on the newsletter for my class assignment. It's well under the way to completion. I am seeing the end just around the corner.

This afternoon I headed over to Health Plus and go a massage. Oh boy! It's the first one that I'd ever gotten and boy have I been relaxed ever since. Wow! It was nice to have someone do my shoulders. I could feel the stress leaving as each minute passed. Janna was a miracle worker. This is something that I will definitely do again.

Quilt of Holes

As I faced my Maker at the last judgment, I knelt before the Lord along with all the other souls.

Before each of us laid our lives like the squares of a quilt in many piles; an angel sat before each of us sewing our quilt squares together into a tapestry that is our life.

But as my angel took each piece of cloth off the pile, I noticed how ragged and empty each of my squares was. They were filled with giant holes. Each square was labeled with a part of my life that had been difficult, the challenges and temptations I was faced with in every day life. I saw hardships that I endured, which were the largest holes of all.

I glanced around me. Nobody else had such squares. Other than a tiny hole here and there, the other tapestries were filled with rich color and the bright hues of worldly fortune. I gazed upon my own life and was disheartened.

My angel was sewing the ragged pieces of cloth together, threadbare and empty, like binding air.
Finally the time came when each life was to be displayed, held up to the light, the scrutiny of truth. The others rose; each in turn, holding up their tapestries. So filled their lives had been. My angel looked upon me, and nodded for me to rise.

My gaze dropped to the ground in shame. I hadn't had all the earthly fortunes. I had love in my life, and laughter. But there had also been trials of illness, and wealth, and false accusations that took from me my world, as I knew it. I had to start over many times. I often struggled with the temptation to quit, only to somehow muster the strength to pick up and begin again. I spent many nights on my knees in prayer, asking for help and guidance in my life. I had often been held up to ridicule, which I endured painfully, each time offering it up to the Father in hopes that I would not melt within my skin beneath the judgmental gaze of those who unfairly judged me.

And now, I had to face the truth. My life was what it was, and I had to accept it for what it was. I rose and slowly lifted the combined squares of my life to the light. An awe-filled gasp filled the air. I gazed around at the others who stared at me with wide eyes.

Then, I looked upon the tapestry before me. Light flooded t he many holes, creating an image, the face of Christ. Then our Lord stood before me, with warmth and love in His eyes. He said, 'Every time you gave over your life to Me, it became My life, My hardships, and My struggles.

Each point of light in your life is when you stepped aside and let Me shine through, until there was more of Me than there was of you.' May all our quilts be threadbare and worn, allowing Christ to shine through!

God determines who walks into your life ...it's up to you to decide who you let walk away, who you let stay, and who you refuse to let go.' I would like this back. If you'll do this for me, I'll do it for you....When there is nothing left but God that is when you find out that God is all you need.

Hello Friday

I started the weekend a little late, I had clocked out an was on the way home when I realised that I forgot my cell phone. Oops! During my run back into the office to get it off the desk, the boss caught me and had me do a project for him that had to go out immediately. I ended up getting back out of the office about an hour later.

On the way home I was checking in with everyone and ended up heading straight out to Mom & Dad's to have dinner with Dad. He said the magic word, turkey salad. Mom had made some up this week. Yum! I could sit eat it with a spoon. I had a nice visit with Dad & Mamaw Stapleton before heading off to the Verizon store.

I had had trouble with the battery on my phone on Sunday and it has continued to act up all week. Tonight it died on the way to visit with Dad. So I left early enough to make the trip to the Verizon store to have it looked out. Turned out that the was having an issue, but they had me just purchase a new one. Then after making the purchase, I found out that my warranty had expired yesterday. I then decided it was time to talk to the manager. Since I had tried to have the phone issue corrected on Sunday, they went ahead and refunded my battery purchase and gave me the new one at no charge. The battery definitely has fixed the problem. Even with two bars on the battery I can have a conversation!!! Yipee!

Tomorrow I'm finishing my InDesign class. It has been difficult just getting the time to think about the final class exercise. Between work and a couple of other obligations it has just been about impossible. I have cleared the schedule for the weekend and am putting the assignment on the front burner. Now, there is only one thing that would change that...and I'm not anticipating that it will happen, but I'd drop it in a minute if the the other thing did come up.

Wrapping up the week

Lots and lots going on this week. Uncle Louie, in keeping up with Mom, has had knee surgery. Word is that he is doing well. Walter has been tackling the woodpile in the front yard. It is shrinking daily. Maybe the neighbors' kids are up to helping him out this final few days before they head back to school.

I've been contemplating my final assignment for InDesign. I think I've got a feel for how I want it to look. It just getting in the layout done and dropping in the content. I'm shooting for a weekend completion. Then it will be time to get started on the next two classes.

More Updates

Things seemed to move along just fine this morning, until Jami tried to file insurance claims....Ut Oh! Turned out that there was a patch that still needed to be installed. I was swamped with things, so I only got the ones that really needed to be updated right away. I'll be shooting to get the rest of them done in the morning.

Why is that you always miss the typo until you after you hit the 'publish post' button? Grrr.

Another day, another challenge.

I really don't want to do it, but it looks like I'm going to have to be the one to do it. So I'll just buck up and get on with it. We're having a software upgrade at the office and I personally have wanted to have no part in it. So many computers and so little time. It's a server install and not really one of those things that I do a lot, thus the reluctance to even get involved with it. Oh well, it will be a later night than usual at the office.

Walt got an interesting surprise at the house yesterday evening. It seems that the 'nosy committee' had dropped after he left in the afternoon to leave him a little 'love note' on the front door. Apparently there is some sort of code compliance issues with at the house. Hmm...wood piles that have not been removed from the front yard and heaven forbid there is a camper in the driveway! The weather hasn't been helpful in the progress of getting the wood clean up, but then again, Walt's been trying to clean up what was left by the previous owners at the same time. And that, takes longer than just stacking wood at the back of the yard. Shoot we even had to find the property line so we would know where to put the darn stuff. It's funny (not really) that the county doesn't deal with feral cats but gets in a real snit over firewood. It's a crazy place. I told Walter the next thing that they'll have an issue over is the stumps in the yard.

On another note, my computer has been doing funky things lately. Yesterday I lost my internet connection at the office, literally. It took rebooting the computer to even come up with the icon for the office network. Then today, I lost my speakers. Same solution, but what's going on? I think Vista may have been partying a bit too much lately and is forgetting where it hides stuff from itself.

Talked to Walter this afternoon and he was telling me that he has taken care of the 'issue' with the wood. I don't know exactly who he talked to, but they surely did get an ear full.

While I've been here waiting on the server to do it's thing, I've had the opportunity to spend some time doing some more catching up with Tim. They sure are a busy bunch over there. Lots of things going on. I'll have to catch back up with Alice this evening. We usually do the commute home phone call, but I got to talking with Tim first. Mom's even chimed in, I still need to give her a call back.

I'm looking for Walter to show up her anytime now to help me finish off the rest of the office computers. It's just going to take the time to wait for them to install.

10:00 PM Finally home from getting the computers upgraded. It only took three phone calls to various tech support numbers to get it underway. Then it wasn't terrible, just kept me moving from machine to machine and back again. Then of course there were the Microsoft updates that were also thrown in to the mix. They make for such fun surprises.

In a Reflective Mood

I have slipped in a bit of a reflective mood over the past few days, with that said....

What is it that really keeps us from pursing our dreams and passions? Family, friends, fear, cowardace, money? Or just not knowing how to begin?

We all do it, we play devils advocate in our heads, some of us even write lists. Generally our questions are relatively the same,
  • Will our family approve and accept what we are going to do?
  • Will our friends still be our friends? Will they disapprove?
  • Are we fearful? Is that fear rational or is it just vague and not specific?
  • Are we afraid of being alone?
  • Are we afraid of taking the chance to step out beyond what is the status quo.
  • Do we or are we cowarding behind the 'normal' because we do not want to accept what could be?
  • Or even worse are we more afraid of not being able to embrace what could or couldn't be?
  • Do the responsibilities of normal life keep us tied to what we've always done? Not allowing us to go forth and conquer the world and ourselves.
  • Is money our task master? Are we working only for money? Is there some magical figure that once reached will 'allow' us to pursue our dreams?
  • Do we feel trapped by our circumstances? Just not knowing how to take that fist step to living our lives to the fullest?
  • Are we waiting on someone or something? Do we find ourselves living life vicariously through others that are out there living their dream?
  • Are we waiting on life to find us? Life is happening all around us, but in order to live our own life we must step out and join dance.

I am guilty of all of these things and probably much more.

In the end what are we after all is said and done:

  • A footnote in history, a line in a book? Or
  • Have we really been and done something that will be enduring? Or
  • Touched others in a way that has a positive lasting effect?

    • In reflecting on my own life I find that as I've been on my own journey there have been a few individuals who have always been a part of me. Whether knowingly or not their 'presence' has indelibly altered me. I am who I am in part because of the role that these special people have played in my life. Changing my perspective, nudging me forward, pulling me out the mess of things that I make from time to time, encouraging me to move forward, or simply giving me a much needed kick in the pants!

Then there are those extra special people. These are ones that touch your very soul. Moving you to reach past what you may think is possible and take hold of what can be. Thank God for them, for without them who would we be.

After writing the above I drove past one of the churches in the area and saw the following:

      Sunday Afternoon

Cassie and I got started on our afternoon adventures right after church. A quick lunch and then off to the Valentine Museum. The tour of Wickham house was fairly interesting as was the museum. Off the gardens we found the sculpture studio and dicovered a treasure trove of unique pieces by Edward Valentine. I particularly like his proposed Robert E. Lee monument.

      More photos

I noticed that my cell phone was losing it's charge, so we headed up Broad Street in search of a Verizon location. Once there they discovered that my phone was operating on version 3.0 software, and the current version is 6.0! Hmmm, how did that happen. I left the phone there for a much needed upgrade and headed off to visit with Tim & Elda.

We had a splendid visit. Cassie and the cousins played for a couple of hours. I don't think we'd have even left when we did, if we hadn't of had to be back to the Verizon store before it closed.

I got Cassie back home, and turned right around and headed back across the river to continue my visit. We had quite the time. Walt was checking in on me by 10:30 to make sure that I was alright. It was a great visit and made for an interesting close to the weekend.

      Sunday Morning

I was out on the porch this morning enjoying the wonderful weather, and there amongst the remnants of the fallen trees I spotted this butterfly. Amazingly enough it stayed around long enough for me to go back into the house and get the camera.

Well I'm off shortly to pick up the niece, Cassie, for a trip to the Valentine Museum. Admission is free on Sundays through Labor Day, since neither of us has ever been I thought that we take advantage of that this afternoon.

      Saturday Update

I was so pleased with the turn out at last night's event. I believe that everyone had a good time. The pictures were great and Tom Griggs has even added a few more to the ones that I took. Who would have believed that there would be a photo of me let alone three or four?

After getting the house guests back on the road this morning, I headed out for a short shopping trip. I just couldn't pass up printing out a couple of the pictures from last night.

We had an unexpected visitor around midday, an older gentleman that Walter had given several loads of wood to, came by and delivered a bag of homegrown tomatoes. He wanted to give them to the nice boy that had given him the wood. He was just as nice as could be.

A pleasant afternoon rain cooled temperatures off here about 10 degrees and cut the humidity to almost nothing. We should have had these temperatures last night.

I finally got Dad on the phone this afternoon to wish him a happy birthday. He was the hardest man to get hold of today. Off and about early this morning and then off again late this afternoon. I had to catch him in transit.

      Views on Aging

Do you realize that the only time in our lives when we like to get old is when we're kids? If you're less than 10 years old, you're so excited about aging that you think in fractions.

'How old are you?' ' I'm four and a half!' You're never thirty-six and a half. You're four and a half, going on five! That's the key.

You get into your teens, now they can't hold you back. You jump to the next number, or even a few ahead.

'How old are you?' 'I'm gonna be 16!' You could be 13, but hey, you're gonna be 16! And then the greatest day of your life ! You become 21. Even the words sound like a ceremony YOU BECOME 21. YESSSS!!!

But then you turn 30. Oooohh, what happened there? Makes you sound like bad milk! He TURNED; we had to throw him out. There's no fun now, you're Just a sour-dumpling. What's wrong? What's changed?

You BECOME 21, you TURN 30, then you're PUSHING 40. Whoa! Put on the brakes, it's all slipping away. Before you know it, you REACH 50 and your dreams are gone..

But wait!!! You MAKE it to 60. You didn't think you would!

So you BECOME 21, TURN 30, PUSH 40, REACH 50 and MAKE it to 60.

You've built up so much speed that you HIT 70! After that it's a day-by-day thing; you HIT Wednesday!

You get into your 80's and every day is a complete cycle; you HIT lunch; you TURN 4:30 ; you REACH bedtime. And it doesn't end there. Into the 90s, you start going backwards; 'I Was JUST 92.'

Then a strange thing happens. If you make it over 100, you become a little kid again. 'I'm 100 and a half!'

May you all make it to a healthy 100 and a half!!

      HOW TO STAY YOUNG
      1. Throw out nonessential numbers. This includes age, weight and height. Let the doctors worry about them. That is why you pay 'them.'
      2. Keep only cheerful friends. The grouches pull you down.
      3. Keep learning. Learn more about the computer, crafts, gardening, whatever, even ham radio. Never let the brain idle. 'An idle mind is the devil's workshop.' And the devil's name is Alzheimer's.
      4. Enjoy the simple things.
      5. Laugh often, long and loud. Laugh until you gasp for breath.
      6. The tears happen. Endure, grieve, and move on. The only person, who is with us our entire life, is ourselves. Be ALIVE while you are alive.
      7. Surround yourself with what you love , whether it's family, pets, keepsakes, music, plants, hobbies, whatever. Your home is your refuge .
      8. Cherish your health: If it is good, preserve it. If it is unstable, improve it. If it is beyond what you can improve, get help.
      9. Don't take guilt trips. Take a trip to the mall, even to the next county; to a foreign country but NOT to where the guilt is.
      10. Tell the people you love that you love them at every opportunity.

      Here's To a New Beginning

Last night we all got together to welcome home Brian and send him off at the same time. We had a fantastic time at Glory Days Grill. It was great getting to spend time to catch up and wishing him well on his new adventure.

All the pictures from last night.

      Hmmm...

Just thinking! Okay, don't laugh. See what happens when I'm left to my own devices on a day off. Doing the typical housework, catching up on email, more classwork, possibly some yardwork and pondering some interesting questions for example.

Danielle & Ben's baby was due on August 4th and today is the 21st, what are the odds that the baby has been born by now? If a normal pregnancy is right at 40 weeks and it would now be 43 weeks, I'd venture to say that the baby is most likely here by now. If not, Guiness Book of World Records will be making an announcement sometime soon for them. Although I did do a Google search and came up with a link to a woman who 'supposedly' had a 17 month long pregnancy. Yikes! Can we all say hoax?

With that being said, I wish them all well on the new arrival, and ask that they let me know the details sometime. I'd like to know if it was a boy or girl.

      And I'm Off

I've pinned a note to the computer monitor in my office, and I'm off for a three day weekend.

I've been catching up a few things here at the house this evening and have a list written for tomorrow. The only things on the schedule for my 'weekend' are:

    • Brian's Party at Glory Days on Friday Night, and
    • Taking Cassie to the Valentine Museum on Sunday afternoon
    • Social Media Revolution

A great video on the way that social media is changing the way that we get our news and find products.

      Hump Day

It has been a busy day as usual. Work keeps me busy, as usual. We're working on producing the Fall edition of our Smiles Of magazine. New colors, images and copy. We're just about done.

As the afternoon wore on we were taking bets whether or not it was going to rain. Well, of course, the clouds rolled in and looked quite threatening until it all of sudden let loose and poured briefly. Looks like the rain finally caught up with us this evening. It has been raining cats and dogs for the past 30 minutes here. At one point it sounded like someone was standing over top of the skylight pour buckets of water onto it. It sounds like it is beginning to move out of the area now, but you never know it could slip right back around and hit us again. I know all the plants in the yard are 'thrilled' - I've been negligent in actually getting out there and doing some watering.
I received my final grade for my last assignment in my Color Theory class today. So this evening I logged into class and took my final exame which finished up my Color Theory class. I ended up with an "A" for the class. Yeah!

My InDesign class has been plodding right along, it just takes longer to put together some of the pieces than in other classes. I went to work on my final session yesterday and found out that one of the sample/example pieces that we were suppose to be using wasn't even in the download area. Turned out that the instructor had had an "Oops, I'm bad." moment. The document was up this evening. I'll get on that lesson tomorrow, when I can stay up late and not worry about getting up early for work. (Yes, I have the day off on Friday otherwise it would never happen.)

Walter it seems has put in a full day as well. Working on the Suburbans with Tim. He tells me that he's got one just about ready to put the engine back into and the other ready to get rid of. Yeah, he'll be down to one Suburban. I truly didn't think he needed two, but at least he'll be able to sell one for parts or possibly donate it as a tax deduction.

Thought For the Day: The sad truth is that excellence makes people nervous. - Shana Alexander

      Best Come Back Line Ever

Now I checked this out on Snopes.com, and it is absolutely false - never happened. However, according to Snopes.com this thing has been floating around the internet since 1998, and there was one actual incident in 2002 involving a man and his pumpkin in his basement. But even knowing all this....it was too funny not to share.

In summary, the police arrested Patrick Lawrence, 22 year old white male, in a pumpkin patch 11:38 p.m. on Friday night.

On Monday, at the Gwinnett County (GA) courthouse, Lawrence was charged with lewd and lascivious behaviour, public indecency, and public intoxication.

The suspect explained that as he was passing a pumpkin patch on his way home from a drinking session when he decided to stop, 'You know how a pumpkin is soft and squishy inside, and there was no one around for miles or at least I thought there wasn't anyone around' he stated in a telephone interview.

Lawrence went on to say that he pulled over to the side of the road, picked out a pumpkin that he felt was appropriate to his purpose, cut a hole in it, and proceeded to satisfy his alleged need. 'Guess I was really into it, you know?' he commented with evident embarrassment. In the process of doing the deed, Lawrence failed to notice an approaching police car and was unaware of his audience until Officer Brenda Taylor approached him.

'It was an unusual situation, that's for sure,' said Officer Taylor. 'I walked up to Lawrence and he's just banging away at this pumpkin.' Officer Taylor went on to describe what happened when she approached Lawrence.

'I said, 'Excuse me sir, but do you realize that you're having sex with a pumpkin?

'He froze and was clearly very surprised that I was there, and then he looked me straight in the face and said... 'A pumpkin? Shit .... is it midnight already?'

      Another Day Under the Bridge!

It was an amazingly full and tough day. I felt like I was being pulled in a million different directions, without really knowing what direction I 'really' needed to be truly be going in.

I've got homework to continue doing this evening, but after the whole day at the computer screen it isn't happening. As an added excuse, I'm missing a file I need to use while going through the final lecture of my InDesign class, but it seems to be MIA. Even the instructor doesn't seem to know about it. We'll see if it shows up soon. Time to check in online to find out what's going on with it.

Thought For the Day: "One of the traditional methods of imposing statism or socialism on a people has been by way of medicine. It's very easy to disguise a medical program as a humanitarian project. . . . Now, the American people, if you put it to them about socialized medicine and gave them a chance to choose, would unhesitatingly vote against it." - Ronald Reagan

      Regifting Robin

An interesting website that guesses what gift you have select from based on a number you select. But...you don't enter any numbers on the screen. Hmmm. It's pretty neat.

I picked this up from the Patriot's Post today:

      She's a Pro

The woman applying for a job in a Florida lemon grove seemed to be far too qualified for the job.

The foreman frowned and said, "I have to ask you this: Have you had any actual experience in picking lemons?"

"Well, as a matter of fact, I have!" she replied. "I've been divorced three times and I voted for Obama."

Statements From a DC Airport Ticket Agent

A DC airport ticket agent offers some examples of 'why' our country is in trouble!

      1. I had a New Hampshire Congresswoman (Carol Shea-Porter) ask for an aisle seat so that her hair wouldn't get messed up by being near the window. (On an airplane!)

      2. I got a call from a Kansas Congressman's (Moore) staffer (Howard Bauleke), who wanted to go to Capetown. I started to explain the length of the flight and the passport information, and then he interrupted me with, "I'm not trying to make you look stupid, but Capetown is in Massachusetts." Without trying to make him look stupid, I calmly explained, "Cape Cod is in Massachusetts, Capetown is in Africa" his response -- click.

      3. A senior Vermont Congressman (Bernie Sanders) called, furious about a Florida package we did. I asked what was wrong with the vacation in Orlando. He said he was expecting an ocean-view room. I tried to explain that's not possible, since Orlando is in the middle of the state. He replied, "don't lie to me, I looked on the map and Florida is a very thin state!" (OMG)

      4. I got a call from a lawmaker's wife (Landra Reid) who asked, "Is it possible to see England from Canada?" I said, "No." She said, "But they look so close on the map." (OMG, again!)

      5. An aide for a cabinet member (Janet Napolitano) once called and asked if he could rent a car in Dallas. I pulled up the reservation and noticed he had only a 1-hour layover in Dallas. When I asked him why he wanted to rent a car, he said, "I heard Dallas was a big airport, and we will need a car to drive between gates to save time." (Aghhhh)

      6. An Illinois Congresswoman (Jan Schakowsky) called last week. She needed to know how it was possible that her flight from Detroit left at 8:30 a.m., and got to Chicago at 8:33 a.m. I explained that Michigan was an hour ahead of Illinois, but she couldn't understand the concept of time zones. Finally, I told her the plane went fast, and she bought that.

      7. A New York lawmaker, (Jerrold Nadler) called and asked, '"Do airlines put your physical description on your bag so they know whose luggage belongs to whom?" I said, "No, why do you ask?' He replied, "Well, when I checked in with the airline, they put a tag on my luggage that said (FAT), and I'm overweight. I think that's very rude!"

After putting him on hold for a minute, while I looked into it. (I was dying laughing). I came back and explained the city code for Fresno, Ca. is (FAT - Fresno Air Terminal), and the airline was just putting a destination tag on his luggage.

      8. A Senator John Kerry aide (Lindsay Ross) called to inquire about a trip package to Hawaii. After going over all the cost info, she asked, "Would it be cheaper to fly to California and then take the train to Hawaii?"

      9. I just got off the phone with a freshman Congressman, Bobby Bright(D) from Ala who asked, "How do I know which plane to get on?" I asked him what exactly he meant, to which he replied, "I was told my flight number is 823, but none of these planes have numbers on them."

      10. Senator Dianne Feinstein called and said, "I need to fly to Pepsi-Cola , Florida. Do I have to get on one of those little computer planes?" I asked if she meant fly to Pensacola, FL on a commuter plane. She said, "Yeah, whatever, smarty!"

      11. Mary Landrieu, La. Senator, called and had a question about the documents she needed in order to fly to China. After a lengthy discussion about passports, I reminded her that she needed a visa. "Oh, no I don't. I've been to China many times and never had to have one of those."

I double checked and sure enough, her stay required a visa. When I told her this she said, "Look, I've been to China four times and every time they have accepted my American Express!"

      12. A New Jersey Congressman (John Adler) called to make reservations, "I want to go from Chicago to Rhino, New York." I was at a loss for words. Finally, I said, "Are you sure that's the name of the town?" "Yes, what flights do you have?" replied the man. After some searching, I came back with, "I'm sorry, sir, I've looked up every airport code in the country and can't find a rhino anywhere."

"The man retorted, "Oh, don't be silly! Everyone knows where it is. Check your map!" So I scoured a map of the state of New York and finally offered, "You don't mean Buffalo, do you?" The reply? "Whatever! I knew it was a big animal."

Now you know why the Government is in the shape that it's in!

YES, THEY WALK AMONG US, ARE IN POLITICS, AND THEY CONTINUE TO BREED.
