Friday

Friday is here and it is such a pleasant morning. I even slept with the window open last night. :) Which was a real treat! It chases away all the stale air in the house

I accomplished a lot at work, but it sure didn't look like it. The biggest issue I had all day was trying to burn a DVD. It took 3 or 4 tries to get one burned. I don't have a clue as to what was the problem, but when I finally got one completed.

This evening the guys took me out to dinner at Panera. I had a really delicious grilled salmon salad. It had pignoli nuts, green beans, red peppers and mixed greens, topped with a fillet of grilled salmon with lemon pepper dressing.

Why Indeed ...?
  • Why do you press harder on the buttons of a remote control when you know the batteries are dead?
  • Why do we put suits in garment bags and garments in a suitcase?
  • How come abbreviated is such a long word?
  • Why do we wash bath towels? Aren't we clean when we use them?
  • Why doesn't glue stick to the inside of the bottle?
  • Why do they call it a TV set when you only have one?
A Quiz For Those Who Know Everything!

This is a quiz for people who know everything! I found out in a hurry that I didn't. These are not trick questions. They are straight questions with straight answers.

  2. What famous North American landmark is constantly moving backward?
  3. Of all vegetables, only two can live to produce on their own for several growing seasons. All other vegetables must be replanted every year. What are the only two perennial vegetables?
  4. What fruit has its seeds on the outside?
  5. In many liquor stores, you can buy pear brandy, with a real pear inside the bottle. The pear is whole and ripe, and the bottle is genuine; it hasn't been cut in any way. How did the pear get inside the bottle?
  6. Only three words in standard English begin with the letters " dw" and they are all common words. Name two of them.
  7. There are 14 punctuation marks in English grammar. Can you name at least half of them?

Exercises for Older Adults

Just came across this exercise suggested for older adults, to build muscle strength in the arms and shoulders. It seems so easy, so I thought I'd pass it on to some of my friends. The article suggested doing it three days a week.

Begin by standing on a comfortable surface, where you have plenty of room at each side. With a 5-lb potato sack in each hand, extend your arms straight out from your sides and hold them there as long as you can. Try to reach a full minute, and then relax.

Each day, you'll find that you can hold this position for just a bit longer.

After a couple of weeks, move up to 10-lb potato sacks.

Then try 50-lb potato sacks and then eventually try to get to where you can lift a 100-lb potato sack in each hand and hold your arms straight for more than a full minute. (I'm at this level)

After you feel confident at that level, put a potato in each of the sacks.
